There are many causes of pain in the ears.Exposure to cold wind or severe cold, injury, suppression of skin disease boil in the ear inflammation of the ear deposit of ear wax etc.may produce sticking or stinging pain and may result in formation of a boil in which pus may be formed.After suppuration i.e pus formation pain is relieved and the ear begins to discharge pus.
Aconite: Pain due to cold.
Belladonna: Pain appears suddenly and is accompanied by headache, inflammation or boil.
Pulsatilla: Lancinating pain, pain in children after measles.
Apis: Stinging pain.
Merc Sol: After small pox.Pain extends to teeth and increases at night and in warm bed.Formation of pus.
Chamomilla: Pain during childrens dentition.Pain in teeth also. Swelling and heat driving the patient frantic, and ears feeling stopped.
Arnica: Pain due to injury.
Silica: Pus, offensive odour.
Hepar: Pain after pus is formed.
Ear should be washed with a lotion of PLANTAGO Q, 20 drop for one ounce of hot water.BELLADONNA GLYCERINE should be dropped 2-3 drops.
Hepar and Silicea: In high potencies once a week or so are very useful in chronic ottorhoea.
TELLURIUM, MERC.SOL, NITRIC ACID and CALC.CARB should also be studied for chronic ottorhoea.In offensive discharge the ear should be washed with carbolic lotion.Take CARBOLIC ACID 1 dram, GLYCERINE one ounce distilled water 4 ounces and mix well.Ear should not be washed too much and frequently.In the night blow a few grains of BORIC ACID into the ear and wash with simple hot water in the morning.This will reduce the discharge.
