Publishing Partnership Between AAPS And Springer Widened

October 29, 2007 – 2:35 pm | posted in Pharma Industry

Starting in January 2008, Springer will publish The AAPS Journal and AAPS PharmSciTech, both official publications of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). Springer has partnered with the AAPS since 2005 to publish its book program, and for more than 20 years the AAPS has sponsored Springer’s journal Pharmaceutical Research.

John Lisack, Jr., AAPS Executive Director, said, “I am very excited about partnering with Springer to produce the very best journals in the pharmaceutical sciences. This collaboration will expand the AAPS’s publication efforts.”

The AAPS Journal is an online-only quarterly journal that publishes reviews, theme issues and research articles in the scope of pharmaceutical sciences encompassed by the AAPS membership. Special emphasis is placed on increasing the dissemination of scientific presentations made at AAPS-sponsored meetings, workshops and symposia. The Editor-in-Chief of The AAPS Journal is Ho-Leung Fung, Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Professor of Pharmaceutics at the State University of New York at the Buffalo School of Pharmacy, NY, USA.

Dr. Fung said, “With Springer addressing the international library market and individuals outside the association, and the AAPS reaching its members and sister societies around the globe, this agreement ensures that cutting-edge scientific knowledge is delivered to pharmaceutical scientists worldwide.”

AAPS PharmSciTech, also an online-only quarterly journal, is committed to serving those pharmaceutical scientists interested in the research, development and evaluation of pharmaceutical dosage forms, including drugs derived from biotechnology and the manufacturing science pertaining to the commercialization of such dosage forms. The Editor-in-Chief of AAPS PharmSciTech is Patrick P. DeLuca, Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, Lexington, KY, USA.

Dr. DeLuca said, “Springer has great experience with journals in the pharmaceutical sciences. This agreement greatly benefits the official AAPS journals, serving the members of the AAPS as well as other scientists with related medical interests.”

Both journals will be available via www.springerlink.com, Springer’s online information platform, and will include fast, electronic publication in Online First™, as well as Cross Reference Linking and Table of Content Alerts. In addition, all potential authors have the option, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model. Springer will digitize the back volumes of The AAPS Journal and AAPS PharmSciTech making them available to readers through the Springer Online Archives Collection.

“Springer is delighted to have this opportunity to expand our excellent working relationship with one of the most influential organizations in the pharmaceutical sciences,” said Kathleen Lyons, Editorial Director, Biomedical Sciences, at Springer. “The AAPS Journal and AAPS PharmSciTech are quickly gaining influence within this community and Springer will work with the Association to increase both the visibility and authority of these publications.”
