Stages of Breast Cancer

Years ago I had a very close friend to me pass away because of cancer.  This great devastation could have been avoided if he had understood and sought out help earlier.  We are extremely blessed at this time to understand a little bit more of the stages and what signs to look for.  If breast cancer is caught early some may have as high as a 98% chance to be cured of it.

Stage I includes any of the following: The tumor is no more than 2 centimeters.  The cancer hasn’t spread to the lymph-nodes.  The cancer hasn’t spread to a distant part of the body.

Stage II includes any of the following: The tumor is 2 to 5 centimeters in length and may or may not have spread to the lymph-nodes.  The tumor is larger than 5 centimeters but hasn’t spread to the lymph-nodes.  The tumor is less than 2 centimeters but has spread to less than 4 of your underarm lymph-nodes.  The survival rate at this point is 76 to 88 percent.

Stage III includes any of the following: Tumor that’s larger than 5 centimeters and and has spread to the axillary lymph-nodes  However the nodes aren’t growing into one another.  The tumor is smaller than 5 centimeters but has grown into the lymph-nodes above the collar bone.  Inflammatory breast cancer in which the cancer has spread to the breast skin causing swelling and redness.  The survival rate at this point is 49 to 56 percent.

Stage IV includes any of the following: The cancer has spread to distant parts of the body such as the bones, organs, or lymph-nodes located far from the breast.  At this point the cancer probably cannot be cured but symptom relief is very important.

My good friend found out that he had cancer when he was at stage IV.  A week after learning of his cancer he passed away.  Please, I cannot say it enough, know your breasts, it just may save your life.
