Report Examines State Medicaid Agencies’ Efforts To Implement Health IT
August 26, 2007 – 7:27 pm | posted in Medicare“State Medicaid Agencies’ Initiatives on Health Information Technology and Health Information Exchange,” HHS Office of Inspector General: According to the report, state Medicaid agencies are making progress implementing health information technology and health information exchange initiatives, which potentially could reduce health care costs that result from inefficiency, medical errors, inappropriate care and incomplete information. The report finds that 12 state Medicaid agencies already have implemented a variety of health IT initiatives, including claims-based electronic health records, electronic prescribing, remote disease monitoring and personal health records. In addition, many state Medicaid agencies are developing health IT initiatives, and 25 states are involved in planning and developing statewide HIE networks that will allow for the secure exchange of health care information (HHS Office of Inspector General release, 8/21).
