The August 15 article, “Experts Look for Ways to Lessen Impact of Drug Shortages and Discontinuations,” points to ASHP’s Drug Shortage Resource Center as one project working to lessen the shortage’s harmful impacts, such as compromised patient care and increasing medication costs.
ASHP member Erin Fox, Pharm.D., a drug information specialist at the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics in Salt Lake City, is also featured in the article.
The Drug Shortage Resource Center alerts practitioners to the latest information on drugs that are in short supply or are no longer available. The resource center also offers suggestions for appropriate substitutes for hard-to-find medications and provides a tool for members who manage drug product inventories to report their experiences with shortages to ASHP.
