BPC Science Medal And C+D Practice Research Award Winners Announced, UK

Dr Molly Stevens and Dr Mary Tully have been announced as winners of the prestigious 2006 Conference Science Medal,* and the 2007 Chemist and Druggist Practice Research Award Medal respectively. The awards will be presented at the British Pharmaceutical Conference (BPC) 2007, on Wednesday 12 September, where the winners will each give a 30 minute lecture on their award-winning research.

The Conference Science Medal is awarded annually to a scientist (in industry or accademia) with a proven track record of independent research and whose published work shows outstanding promise. Dr Stevens, Reader in Regenerative Medicine and Nanotechnology at Imperial College, London, was awarded the Medal in recognition of her work in regenerative medicine, nanotechnology and tissue transplantation.

Dr Stevens, said: “I am really delighted to have been selected as the winner of the Science Medal. The multidisciplinary nature of pharmaceutical science and its focus on healthcare are important driving forces for me. I look forward to highlighting some of our research in regenerative medicine and on new nanomaterial’s for biosensing in my lecture Regenerating organs - and other small challenges at BPC 2007.”

The Chemist and Druggist Practice Research Award Medal is awarded annually to an individual that has made a significant contribution to the field of pharmacy practice research and has the potential to become a leader in their field. Dr Tully, Clinical Senior Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy, University of Manchester, received the award for her work on the process and outcomes of prescribing in secondary care.

Dr Tully, said: “I am really proud to have been chosen to receive the Chemist and Druggist Practice Research Award this year. It is undoubtedly one of the highlights of my research career. I am looking forward to the honour of giving my lecture, The prescribing process in secondary care, in my adopted home town of Manchester.”
