Give Blood Before You Go Away For The Long Weekend - Save Up To Three Lives, Canada

July 26, 2007 – 11:39 pm | posted in Blood / Hematology

Before you rush to head out on the highways and waterways this upcoming long weekend, share in the beauty of giving blood by taking one hour to donate blood and save up to three lives.

Along with the upcoming long weekend comes a need to boost the blood supplies available for your local hospitals. Platelets are of particular concern on the long weekend because they have a shelf life of only five days; making it difficult to maintain an adequate supply for patients in need.

“We are in the middle of the summer season which unfortunately translates into a high number of accidents with a greater potential of injuries requiring blood transfusions. It is crucial that Canadians understand the immediate need for blood donors and respond by coming to donate in the weeks leading up to, and following the long weekend”, says Graham D. Sher, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Blood Services.

Canadian Blood Services encourages everyone to call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236-6283) for blood donor clinic information, eligibility information and to book an appointment.
