Utah SCHIP Allows New Enrollment

July 9, 2007 – 11:21 pm | posted in Health Insurance, Pediatrics

Utah SCHIP on Monday began accepting new applications for enrollment for the first time since September 2006, the Salt Lake Tribune reports. The state froze new enrollment in the program because of a lack of funds. The state Legislature earlier this year gave the Utah Department of Health $4 million in additional funds to provide SCHIP coverage to 12,000 children. In addition, about 8,000 SCHIP slots now are open because beneficiaries have dropped out of the program.

The latest figures show that 45,200 Utah children are eligible for SCHIP, but only 26,000 are enrolled. The health department is planning to launch a media campaign for the program next week, including television and radio advertisements, and a touring van wrapped with SCHIP ads that will visit every county in the state (May, Salt Lake Tribune, 7/3).
