AARC Comments On Home Sleep Testing

April 30, 2007 – 4:43 pm | posted in Respiratory / Asthma, Sleep / Sleep Disorders

AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care) has submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on home sleep testing, urging CMS to assure the competency of those individuals who will be administering the test.

CMS is in the process of determining if Medicare should revise its current policy on sleep diagnostic testing. Current policy limits the Medicare covered tests to sleep facilities or laboratories. CMS is considering expanding the testing arena to the home.

To aid them in the decision-making process, CMS requested public comments. The AARC’s comments focused on the need for the Medicare program to assure the competency of the individuals who will be administering the tests, whether the testing is done under current policy or if CMS expands the testing to the home environment.
