The annual, independent survey conducted by International Plasma Consultants (IPC) compares healthcare companies which have products in the haemophilia market. The purpose of the study is to review the strengths and weaknesses, at customer and patient level, of all key companies and organisations providing coagulation products to the UK.
The survey has considerable importance as it determines the opinion of front line clinicians and assesses companies on a wide range of activity areas ranging from the quality of the product to the impact of their literature, the integrity of sales staff to the support provided to healthcare professionals and patients.
Janet Sandy, UK Haemophilia Therapy Development Manager for Baxter, said, “The team is thrilled to have achieved top place in this survey again and have their hard work recognised. We hold this survey in very high regard as it reflects the views of the treating medical professionals and provides such a comprehensive and independent assessment of our operation.”
Baxter’s long-term commitment to the haemophilia community was emphasised with the development and launch of Advate (octocog alfa) in 2004. Advate’s plasma/albumin free production came in response to calls from the haemophilia community to reduce infection risk and has revolutionised the manufacture of recombinant factor VIII. As a further step to improving haemophilia treatment, Baxter Healthcare is also using the plasma/albumin-free technology as a platform to develop candidate therapies designed to prolong half-life, which has the potential to reduce the number of infusions of clotting factor required.
UK Haemophilia Business Unit Manager David Youds said, “The results of this survey confirm that Baxter continues to be the most highly regarded and respected organisation in the haemophilia arena. The fact that we have come out on top five times in the past six years is a testament to our continuing commitment to meeting the needs of the haemophilia community”.
