Blue Sky Scrubs Expands Line, Introduces New Products

Blue Sky Scrubs, creators of the innovative Pony scrub, a scrub cap specially designed for individuals with long hair, has expanded its product line with the introduction of several new items.

Individuals with short or shoulder-length hair can enjoy the well-fiting sophistication of the new Pixie, a milkmaid-style bonnet scrub hat. Available in bold fabrics, the unique design embodies blue sky’s craftsmanship and affords the same comfort and ease of wear as found in the Pony scrub.

Due to the popularity of the Pony scrub, introduced earlier this year, Blue Sky has released a disposable version of the scrub cap, specifically for use in sterile environments. Made from no-woven polypropylene, the disposable Pony scrub lasts five times longer than conventional disposable bouffant hats and comes packaged in an OR-ready, wall-mountable dispenser.

To complete the OR ensemble, Blue Sky has also introduced its first scrub top and scrub pants. Made from a soft, poly-cotton blend in ceil blue, the top, tapered at the waist, features a large pocket detailed with stitching. The pants, with two back pockets, sit just below the hips to make a fashionable, yet comfortable statement, even in the OR. Blue Sky even offers a sizing chart on its website to ensure a perfect fit.

“We are simple elated at the response to our products,” says Blue Sky founder, Shelby Marquardt, M.D. “These new items complement our existing line of scrub hats for both men and women.”

Blue Sky provides a variety of gift package purchases, in addiciton to frequent shopper incentives.

The Blue Sky Story

In 2005, Shelby Marquardt, the creator of blue sky scrubs, LLC, was an anesthesiology resident at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas when she introduced the scrub hats that were blue sky’s first product.

As a medical student spending much of her time in the operating room, she was dismayed at the prospect of wearing unattractive, ill-fitting scrub hats for long hours every day. Worse, her long hair didn’t fit under the regular scrub hats, and she couldn’t bring herself to don the ‘bouffant’, the hairnet-style hat that reigned supreme.

The first Pony scrub hat (patent pending) was created in her living room, using scraps of fabric she had collected over the years. After cutting, sewing and altering the hat numerous times, she finally perfected the pattern - a sleek, slim-fitting cap with a ribbon-tied pouch that neatly ties back a short or a long ponytail. Once she started wearing the hat to work, her co-workers clamored for their own Pony scrub hats, and she began spending her weekends sewing.
