At its meeting on Wednesday 6 December 2006, the Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) agreed to commission an independent review to examine the principles around how the RPSGB’s professional and regulatory functions might be separated in response to the clarification sought by the Foster review of non-medical healthcare regulation.
The review will consider the principles of a separation of functions, consulting widely, particularly with members of the profession, and considering many options and models before proposing a way forward. Many implications must be considered including efficient and economical linkages, membership and registration links, legal, human resource and financial matters, benefits, risks and costs. The Council will be meeting in informal session on 11 January 2007 to discuss how the review might be carried out.
The papers on which the Council’s discussion were based, and which provide some background to similar reviews elsewhere, were among the December Council papers, and can be found on the Society’s website, www.rpsgb.org, ‘About the Society’ section under ‘The Council and its work.’
