The British Association For The Advancement Of Science To Manage Science Cluster Of NESTA’s Legacy Awards

The BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science) is delighted to announce that it is to manage a powerful science-based cluster of 11 Fellows and 6 Projects from the NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) Learning Programme.

The partnership follows a restructuring of NESTA’s initiatives earlier in the year. As a flagship charity which exists to advance the public understanding, accessibility and accountability of the sciences and engineering, the BA is well-placed to provide vital support to the Fellows and science Award Projects, and ensure the significance of their outcomes.

‘The BA has a great track record of working with science projects, and their central role within the UK science communication community will afford the Awardees access to an exceptional network of contacts - with vast potential to disseminate learning. We are confident that this partnership offers a great opportunity to maximise the impact of the Awards,’ says Jonathan Kestenbaum, CEO of NESTA.

The Awards cover a wide variety of subjects that either push at the boundaries of knowledge and practice, or will lead to the development of innovative ways of teaching and learning. They range from Dr Kevin Fong’s Fellowship to research ways that the body’s reaction to space flight can help in fighting diseases on Earth, to the Learning Project funding the launch of Flipside - a magazine for 11-14 year olds that features science, technology and engineering in among articles on music, movies and gadgets with the aim of influencing positive perceptions of science in teen readers.

Sue Hordijenko, Director of Programmes at the BA says: ‘We are delighted to be working in such close partnership with NESTA and are excited to be involved with such a varied portfolio of activities and innovative range of individuals.’
